Wool in Bendigo! Who would have guessed!?

January 6th, 2011

Hey peeps, another thing researched while I was in Bendigo the other week, was the hype I’ve been hearing about the Bendigo Woolen Mills. I’m ashamed to say I grew up in Bendigo and have only just found out about this wonderful resource that I had on my doorstep for all these years.

Did you know that they are the largest hand knitting mail order manufacturer in Australia? And it’s only of very recent times that they have moved to internet sales, previously us nanna’s would fill our orders via phone or fax. Anything that is based on mail order and  has survived this long without the internet must be good!  You are buying direct from the manufacturer so you get factory direct prices, they have the largest range of natural fiber yarns anywhere in the world.

Wool, Knitting, Crochet

So i say for your next knitting project have a look online for your wool, or if not they have a factory shop in Bendigo at 4 Lansell St. You never know my dad’s a sheep farmer and you may just get some of his wool, the chances are high :)

I’m from Bendigo

I was up home for a little bit over Christmas, and i checked out a few of the local shops in Bendigo. One shop that I have been meaning to get to for a while is bob boutique. They are an awesome store and sell lots and lots of things that are close to my heart,  they stock 48 labels 45 of which are Australian Designed :) . Its amazing to go there and see how much cool stuff we think of in Australia. Thankfully they have an excellent online store in-case you can’t get to Bendigo anytime soon. But I definitely recommend getting up to Bendigo to have a look, its an excellent place to visit (no bias of course).

You can also find some extra special things that are made especially for bob boutique itself, like this most excellent owe tea cosy, made from 100% pure Bendigo woolen mills wool.

P.S. In store they also feature lots of really cool local artists, that stuff you can’t see online.
